Artwork that engraves beautifully.

Logo artwork used for laser engraving must be in an acceptable format to ensure good quality results in the engraved image.

Why it matters

Engraving isn’t printing

The process used for laser engraving is different than the process used for printing on your printer. An image that looks good on a printer may not engrave well on a product.

Printers can handle grayscales of artwork, which creates a smoothing effect in the printed result. Laser engraving uses a burning technique to burn the image into the product, and thus burns each pixel regardless of the shade level found in grayscale images.

Don’t embed files

Do not embed image files inside Word documents or other documents such as spreadsheets — provide the raw artwork file itself.

Acceptable files

CorelDraw, EPS, and PDF vector artwork that has all text converted to curves or outlines. We accept both PC and Mac artwork files.

Unacceptable files

JPG or GIF images, or other low-resolution images converted to TIFF or BMP. Even if the resolution is changed to 300 dpi, they are not acceptable if the original image was less than 300 DPI — resaving a file does not increase the quality of its pixels.

Only have a website logo?

Images from websites are typically 72 or 96 DPI. Please ask your company’s graphic department for a high-resolution logo. If you must use a website image, the engraving may not look professional — we can re-design it for a graphic design charge of $50/hour, billed in 15-minute increments.
